QRP ARCI sponsors plaque

QRP ARCI is committed to the promotion of QRP and the support of QRP clubs, groups and manufacturers.

In the 2012 Indiana QSO Party we sponsored a plaque for the top QRP score outside Indiana.

The winner was Jerry Fiore N4JF.

Jerry managed 81 SSB QSOs and 91 on CW for a total score of 26300.

Brian Murrey KB9BVN (QRP ARCI Board Member) asked Jerry about the event, this is what N4JF had to say -

Hi Brian, When I contest QRP I usually try to enter a class of QRP I may be able to win.. First read all the rules and understand them...my rigs are TS-2000 and IC 756 PRO..Easily turn then down them down to 5 Watts for QRP entry

...Antennas mean a lot also..

FOR CLOSE IN CONTEST I USE A 40 METER INVERTED V AT 30 FT OFF MY TOWER FOR A LOW ANGLE OF RADIATION..

I CAN ROTATE THE ENDS TO BROADSIDE THE STATE..
ON 80 I USE A FLAT TOP DIPOLE AT 100 FT FED WITH OPEN WIRE LINE...
ON 160 I USE A SHUNT FED TOWER AND IT WORKS PRETTY GOOD ALTHOUGH THERE IS NOT MUCH CONTEST ACTIVITY THERE....
ON 20-15 AND 10 I USE 6 EL KLM,KT34-XA AT 100 FEET FOR LONG HAUL STUFF.

REMEMBER 5 WATTS AND NO VARING..

FIRST LICENSED IN DEC 1955 AS KN4HPR THEN UPGRADED TO K4HPR...
JOINED THE QRP RADIO CLUB ABOUT 1960 AND GOT QRP CLUB # 116...
WON 1963,1964 AND 1965 QRP QSO PARTIES WITH A HOMEBREW RIG RUNNING A 6L6..
STILL HAVE IT.. I EVEN MADE THE CHASSIS FOR IT.

GOT MY EXTRA CLASS IN MARCH 1973..
GOT MY PRESENT CALL N4JF(MY INITIALS) IN 1975.
I WORK 99.9 % CW UNLESS THERE IS A STATION I NEED FOR A NEW COUNTRY OR A FRIEND.. GOT MY TOP OF THE DXCC HONOR ROLL PLAQUE IN JUNE 1965.. Need only P5(North Korea) on cw For all on CW...There has been no activity from there that has counted..I have thousands of Paper QSL cards. Participate in LOTW also..

Got MY 1ST CLASS RADIO TELEPHONE LICENSE IN 1963 AND WORKED AS A BROADCAST ENGINEER AT AM-FM STEREO STATION UNTIL 1970 WHEN I WAS ENGINEER AT WBMG TV.. A NEW UHF STATION ON CH-42.. ALL THE ENGINEERS WERE HAMS WHICH MADE IT VERY NICE.. AFTER 21 YRS I RETIRED FROM THE TV STATION AND TOOK A JOB AT THE ALABAMA PUBLIC TV NETWORK AS A BROADCAST TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST.. WE MAINTAINED 8 TV STATIONS NOAH WX RADIO STATIONS AND MICROWAVE LINKS...THIS JOB WAS GREAT.. GOT TO MEET LOTS OF RURAL HAMS DOWN LOGGING ROADS AND WORKED MOSTLY AS I PLEASED.. IT WAS REALLY DIFFERENT... STILL MANAGED TO BE ACTIVE EVERYDAY ON CW....

I AM 73 YRS OLD NOW AND WK CW EVERYDAY.  ....I HAVE WON THE INQP TWO TIMES AND HAVE FINE LOOKING PLAQUES ON THE WALL..

LOOK UP N4JF ON QRZ.COM FOR A PICTURE OF SOME AWARDS. I HAVE OVER 100 CONTEST PLAQUES.. NEED TO SLOW DOWN SOME.

HOPE I DIDNT RATTLE ON TO MUCH... NEED TO CHECK OUT THIS WEEKENDS CONTEST. REMEMBER GO BY THE RULES AND ENJOY YOURSELF... FRUSTRATING SOMETIMES BUT THATS THE WAY IT GOES...
USE GOOD ANTENNAS AND  OPERATE BY THE RULES..
CU IN A CONTEST
